I've just learnt of this sad and terrible loss. I employed Gillian on her mission to Afghanistan and worked closely with her for six months while she was there. Never had there been a more conscientious and committed journalism trainer who demanded high standards and got even greater results. Even after she left Afghanistan, she was always affectionately remembered by staff and on a professional level, some of her trainees have gone on to achieve great things as journalists, editors and some as journalism trainers themselves. Her contribution to journalism in Afghanistan was outstanding and as a personality, she stood out because of her humour, her passion and her unswerving profesionalism. As they would say in Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Muslim world, inna lillahi wa inalihi ra'jioun - may you rest in peace. if her friends and family would like to know more about her work in Afghanistan, I would be happy to tell you of this.
